Native to Australia the Ribbon Palm or Ribbon Fan Palm/Livistona decipiens is a slightly cold hardy palm tree that can handle temperatures within USDA hardiness zones 9-11 although some people say they even do well in 8b. When young, the Ribbon Palm needs plenty of water but once maturity is reached they become quite a drought tolerant palm and do not like wet soggy areas. Ribbon Palms are tall, slender palms that can reach heights of 30'.

The Canary Island Date Palm or Pineapple Palm/Phoenix canariensis is an elegant and fairly cold hardy palm tree that makes a perfect specimen palm or centerpiece palm. Mature specimens can reach a height of 30', develop massive full heads, and do well in USDA Hardiness zones of 8a -11. The Canary Island Date Palm is a drought tolerant palm as well as a moderately salt tolerant.
