Wholesale Grower - Wholesale Palm Trees - Wholesale Plants - Tree Farm

This is just a little information from our wholesale palm tree farm about a pest that can appear and cause damage to your palm trees in Spring and early Summer. This critter (pictured) is a Palmetto Weevil and can sense stressed or sick palm trees and move right in and feast until the heart of your palm is destroyed and the palm tree ultimately dies. The Palmetto Weevil is native to Florida and varies in color from solid black to almost entirely red or a mix of both colors. Once palm trees are infested and larvae are inside the best and possibly the only thing to do is have the palm tree removed and burnt to totally destroy any adult weevils and larvae.

Palmetto Weevil mainly affects the following types of palm trees: The Sabal Palm (Sabal palmetto), Canary Island Date Palm (Phoenix canariensis, Pineapple Palm), Edible Date Palm (Phoenix dactylifera), Coconut Palm (Cocos nucifera) and Royal Palms (Roystonea regia).
